A PhD scholarship is available for a suitable candidate to develop new models for the Oxygen Steelmaking process that will allow engineers to incorporate new source of iron to be introduced into the process. The project relates very strongly to the general drive to lower the carbon footprint of the steel industry through innovation and scientific understanding.

The successful applicant will work closely with Professor Geoffrey Brooks and Professor Akbar Rhamdhani from Swinburne University of Technology, and research engineers from Tata Steel Technology (in the Netherlands). The project undertaken by the successful applicant will build on previous work by the same partners that successfully developed multi-zone kinetic and heat transfer models of Oxygen Steelmaking.
